Former Tribune editor Ann Marie Lipinski hired at University of Chicago Posted on September 9th
The University of Chicago has chosen former Tribune editor Ann Marie Lipinski to fill a top position aimed at enhancing the university’s role in the city.
As vice president for civic engagement, Lipinski will oversee the South Side university’s relationships in a range of areas from public schools to public safety, economic development and the city’s bid for the 2016 Olympics.
“The position . . . really does center around this really larger question of how does an urban research university interact with the city around it?” said U. of C. President Robert Zimmer.
A Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter and editor at the Tribune for 30 years, Lipinski, who resigned in July, likened the responsibilities of her new job to running a newspaper with many sections.
